I’ve just turned in the latest Recluce book — Sub-Majer’s Challenge . This is the third book about Alyiakal (and yes, I’m aready working on the fourth one). In the meantime, I’ve been working with Tor, and it looks like all of the Alyiakal books will be moved up so that there’s less time between them. From the Forest — the first Alyiakal book — is now slated for next January, rather than February, and the next two — Overcaptain and Sub-Majer’s Challenge — will also be closer together.

Can’t wait. This is good news, cause many of the novels they are putting on the mass market, are ai driven crap.

Anytime the books are due are sooner than planned is a good thing in my ,uh, book.

I love it that the new books are coming out closer together. I can’t wait to read them. Keep up the great work!

The Lorn, Lerial, and Rahl novels are my favorite in all of the series. I am VERY excited to hear about more Cyador related stories. My wife doesn’t know how I can reread the same books over and over again. I have probably read each of their stores 5 times or more! THANK YOU Mr. Modesitt!

  5. Much better… although a December date would be better for a Christmas read

Nice! But if you look yourself up on the Tor website, it’s very hard to find information about your books. “publishing.tor.com/authors” doesn’t list you as an author. And on “tor.com”, there are old articles about your books, but no book listings or newer articles. Also, this URL doesn’t talk about you, but rather some other person named Lana Crooks – “https://www.tor.com/members/lmodesitt/”. You are by far my favourite fiction author, and I was that there was more information about your work, and more easily accessible, online.

    1. For reasons I don’t understand, Tor.com is a separate publishing entity from Tor books, and the Tor.com website has steadily reduced coverage of books and authors published by other Tor imprints, including Tor. I’ve pointed this out, but it hasn’t made much difference.

I also appreciate your pointing out the error in my listing at Tor.com

Thanks for the reply! I am currently re-reading some of your Imager books. Thanks so much for your enjoyable series.

        I found https://web.archive.org/web/20180124084759/https://www.tor.com/2014/05/28/announcing-torcom-the-imprint/
which may be a partial explanation of the distinction.

What it doesn’t indicate is where to find information about the rest of the Tor Group catalog.

        An author search at
        https://us.macmillan.com/publishers/tom-doherty-associates

will find many of the books, but not news or upcoming titles.

(Macmillan is the parent company, and in turn part of the German publishing conglomerate Holtzbrinck Publishing Group)

publishing.tor.com is specifically “tordotcom” content…but the rest of the tor.com site seems almost neglected.

        Confusing…

Mr. Modesitt: Your “Recluse” books are all great. I’ve read & re-read them all numerous times & will again. I just finished “From the Forest” & would like to immediately dig in to “Overcaptain”. I don’t understand the publisher keeping such huge gaps between them. I know it’s not your problem; but the publishing habit really “sucks”. Bob Powell

Wonderful news! I’m always glad to see more content coming from one of my most favorite authors. This gives us all quite the upcoming list of reads to enjoy.

    Thank you.

Good to hear about new novels, hope all is well with y’all!

Just finished reading the entire series, again, and I’m looking forward to reading your new books in the series… will you ever look to write a novel in the time line after “death of chaos”?

    1. I have no plans to write a Recluce novel set after the time of The Death of Chaos. It just wouldn’t be the same world.

      1. Tim Richard says:

I can fully understand the sentiment. Though I can’t help think what could be… but it’s a great end to the tale.

I would love however to see something like an slip space rupture happen as a result and folks like Cassius come through from another world, and almost fold the entire world back into the galaxy fight of fall of angels. I for one would absolutely get into that.

Thank you for this series! I’ve been reading your work for years, and I appreciate the time and effort you’ve put into the world you’ve created.

So looking forward to the books about Alykial. The hints to the Lancer/Emperor of Cyador were tantalizing.

Currently, I’m in the process of tracking do hard bound versions of your earlier Recluse novels. Most of the later novels, I’ve been able to find hardbound at release, but the earlier novels, I didn’t have that option.
Had them all up to Tales of Recluse on my Nook, until it ceased working. I much prefer having the physical copy over these E-Versions, so I decided not to replace it. It had been a gift anyway, and not something I’d buy for myself.
There’s a comfort and pleasure to a tome, that E-Readers just don’t have.

Thank you Sir, for sharing your talent and imagination with us.

I have the complete recluce series and the images series. I also read them over and over. I don’t know how this stuff comes from your mind but I’m glad it does. Thank you.
