Somehow, I missed an update on what I’ve been writing. In September I turned in Endgames, an Imager Portfolio novel that is the sequel to Assassin’s Price. Endgames is currently scheduled for a February 2019 release, although that date may vary. In addition, I’ve completed and turned in a short story, “The Liberator,” for The Razor’s Edge, an anthology put out by the small press Zombies Need Brains, where all the stories deal with the fine line separating freedom fighters and terrorists. As I understand it, The Razor’s Edge is scheduled for release around Labor Day 2018. And, of course, I’m currently working on a Recluce novel which is the sequel to Outcasts of Order.

I look forward to the next imager novel. Let your publisher know we will pay more for a faster release 🙂

Really glad to hear the next Imager Portfolio novel is coming out relatively soon. Yes, we would sure pay for faster release. In particular I was looking forward to seeing Rex Charyn develop steam power for Solidar, though evidently there wasn’t room for it in Assassin’s price. Whatever is in the next novel, however, I’m sure it’ll be great! Keep up the good work!

I’m impressed, I need to say. Actually rarely do I encounter a weblog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me let you know, you may have hit the nail on the head. Your thought is excellent; the difficulty is something that not sufficient people are speaking intelligently about. I am very pleased that I stumbled across this in my search for something relating to this. http://hellowh983mm.com

Wait. A sequel to “Outcasts of Order” ? Does that mean you’re writing THREE books about the same character? Whatever it is, I’m looking forward to it. I just finished The Mongrel Mage and it was great. I liked how it felt a little different.

    1. Yes, there will be three books about Beltur. I hadn’t wanted there to be three but the space necessary to tell the story meant three books were required.

For hours each day, Mr Modesitt is constantly imagining the world and characters of his latest creation. I wonder if he dreams about his book-in-progress? 🙂

I’m so excited to hear that a new Recluse novel is in the works. I’m a big fan of both your fantasy and science fiction. How many hours on average do you dedicate to writing each day?

I work full time in another profession, but I’m trying to dedicate a certain amount of time each day to writing. It would be great to hear about your writing practices.

    1. The amount of time spent each day on writing varies, depending on whether I’m doing appearances or have other commitments, but, in general, I write almost every day, sometimes as long as 10-12 hours.

Cannot wait for “Endgames”, now that I know the planned release date. This made my evening.

(“And it is a good evening, for under the Nameless, all evenings are good.”)

Thank you so much for being such a prolific writer. Whether it’s Fantasy or Hard SF, I’m devouring your books. I still have to find one novel that doesn’t swallow me from the start. Second, third, fourth ..etc..reading, it makes no difference :-). I’m a sucker for a captivating and well written story. Again, thank you very much.

For the first time in my life I annotated a book – Assassin’s Price – with what I thought the story stream would be. Interesting to see how close I get to the author’s thoughts. Eagerly awaiting publication.

I wonder if in medieval times if a public official was murdered that the jurisdiction would have made a more rigorous response than a mere letter to the Axalt Council?
I cannot recall what was done in European cities in medieval times? I thought they would have sent soldiers ASAP even if they have to apply for custody.

    1. Think of Axalt as Switzerland, except really committed to be neutral. Just remember that, up to this point, no land has been successful in invading Axalt. Add to that that the head of the Black Council in Elparta is only a pseudo-public official. If an actual councilor had been killed, the response might have been stronger.

I’m so pleased that there will be a conclusion to Beltur’s story. That was the BEST ,yes BEST,one so far, and that is really saying something since I’ve bought them all.Thank you.

  13. I just finished Endgames and it was as awesome as I expected! (ARCs for the win!) Will there be more books in the Imager Portfolio?

  14. grego says:

    Yes, please! More Imager books!

    1. At this point I have no plans for more Imager books. If I ever do revisit Terahnar, it won’t be any time soon, and I’d deal with an entirely different time period.

      1. Shimon says:

I would love that, honestly there’s so much fascinating exploration about the future, after the initial 3. How the bold and overt actions in imagers intrigue are played out in international geopolitics and the development both technologically and politically of solidar, as well as with respect to the place of imagers in other parts of the world, especially ferrum.
